Global Localities is an academic press built on a double vision. We think globally but stay grounded in the context and perspective of the small cultures that give those terms meaning. We are dedicated to holding both ideas simultaneously. We publish work across disciplines and regions grounded in lived context, shaped by local knowledge, and attentive to how ideas travel, shift, and take hold. We seek voices rooted in place and research that traces the connections that form between and within communities.
The press publishes books that adopt the double vision of the global and local in their focus from the beginning or as emerging from their narrative/argument. We will also publish special issues and conference proceedings on a wide range of topics of both global and local importance.
An Imprint (or special line) of Global Localities is "Pinery Pointe Press,"which publishes children's books for middle graders (ages 8-12) and young adults (ages 12-17). Authors should be Canadian citizens, situate their work in some locale or locales of Canada, and address special topics within Canada, such as that of animals and our environment, or more broadly the interaction between human and nature.

Distinguished Professor Patricia Fumerton
Patricia is distinguished professor emeritae of English at the University of California, Santa Barbara and is founding director of the Early Modern Center, http://emc.english.ucsb.edu and the English Broadside Ballad Archive, http://ebba.english.ucsb.edu. In addition to editing ten collections of essays, she is author of three monographs, the last titled, The Broadside Ballad in Early Modern England.Moving Media, Tactical Publics (December 2020). She has most recently delved into middle grade fiction with her new book MS, Paddy Peanut’s Wild Animal Kingdom (18 illustration, 42,000 words), ages 8-11. For her combined accomplishments she has been recognized with a 2026 Global Recognition Award

Mac is Professor and Chair of the Department of Theatre, Film, and Creative Writing at Boise State University. He is author of three books of translated poetry, a book of poetry, and two scholarly books. His most recent publication is a translation of a 1626 Spanish play, The Lieutenant Nun: Annotated Translation of the Play, Historical Accounts and Documents about Antonio/Catalina de Erauso (Routledge, 2025). He is currently working on a book project about his life as a Bering Sea fisherman.

Associate Professor Marie Hanzelková
Marie is a scholar of Czech Literature at Maryisak University, Brno, Czech Republic, where she also received her degrees. She is fascinated with pilgrimage broadside ballads and the relationship between Czech and English broadside ballads as well as those of neighboring, local countries: Poland, Germany, Serbia, Austria, and Ukraine. She is fascinated by permutations of pilgrimage literature between countries, and personally embraces a simple village life with her husband and three children.

William Gahan
Bill is Professor of English at Rockford University in Illinois and instructor for Oregon State University Cascades MFA Program in Writing. He is a native of Madrid, Spain, where he lived until he was twenty. He has published on Shakespeare, philosophy, history, and early modern English writing and culture; Spanish painting; and Latin American and U.S. poets. He translated a Spanish Golden Age play and co-authored The Quarrel Between Poetry and Philosophy (Routledge 2021). Bill has also written and performed dozens of radio Perspectives for the local NPR station, WNIJ. He enjoys spending time with his children, fly-fishing, and motorcycling.

Jessica Murphy
Jessica is Associate Professor of English currently serving as Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education, Success, and Academic Innovation at Montclair State University. Murphy's book, Virtuous Necessity (University of Michigan Press, 2015), studies representations of women in in early modern conduct manuals for women and in literary texts. Recent work includes chapters on Shakespeare, worldmaking and greensickness.

Distinguished Advisory Panel
Bernadette Andrea: Specialist in English literary and cultural studies as well as feminist and Islamic studies. She earned her B.A. from the University of Caligary, Alberta, and her Ph.D. from Cornell University. She is currently a full professor at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
Katherine Steele Brokaw: Specialist in premodern performance and eco-theatre. She earned her Ph.D. from the University of Michigan and is an Associate Professor at UC Merced (formerly associated with the University of Texas during her doctoral work).
Alan Liu: Founder of the Voice of the Shuttle. He earned his Ph.D. from Stanford University and is a Distinguished Professor in the Department of English at UC Santa Barbara.
JoAnn Kushner: An advocate for education and local policy. She earned her degree from UC Santa Barbara and has been involved in local governance and educational coordination within the Santa Barbara community.
Cesar Lopez: Specialist in drug discovery and biotechnology. He earned his Ph.D. from Princeton University and currently serves as a Lead Scientist at Evotec.
Rebecca VanDiver: Specialist in 20th-century Black American Art. She earned her Ph.D. from Duke University and currently teaches at Vanderbilt University.
Kevin Murphy: Specialist in European Art and material culture. He earned his Ph.D. from Northwestern University and currently teaches at Vanderbilt University.
Stephen Tabor: A renowned bibliographer and rare book expert. He was educated at UC Berkeley and currently serves as the Curator of Rare Books at the Huntington Library.
